In response to the BDN article, “Stephen King’s Zone Corp. radio stations will cease broadcasting this month”:

Like many, I was saddened to hear of the imminent demise of these live and local radio stations. Although I haven’t been a regular listener of late, just the fact that locally staffed and produced radio still existed — right here in Downeast Maine — in this era of increasingly corporatized, homogenized, dehumanized radio, made me happy. Not to mention that WKIT/WZLO were two rare purveyors of rock music in this region.

Which brings me to the comments I’ve read on social media from listeners, many lamenting, “Now where will I get my rock & roll?” Which makes me want to wave my arms and shout, “Over here! Over here!”

I invite you all to give Community Radio — WERU 89.9FM ( https://weru.org/ ) a listen. Rock fan? We have it! Along with blues, folk, country, jazz, and a few other genres. Plus we are commercial free! And if you call us, you will actually speak to an on-air DJ, who’s passionate and knowledgeable about the music. So know that you still have a local alternative, as the Replacements sang, “Left of the dial!”
