The recent dust-up between Gov. Janet Mills and the president of the United States was, to me, both a bit funny but mostly downright concerning. It shows the wide chasm between political parties that is not getting any narrower.
I happen to believe, like the president apparently, that biological males who identify as female should not be playing on a girls’ athletic team. We have boys and girls teams for a reason, mostly due to physical differences between the sexes. If a trans person wants to be a girl, fine, but when it comes to playing with them on an athletic team, I believe they are still a male performance and capability wise. Perhaps a new class for trans folks is in order. Why force the issue?
Now, if the governor will tell us how she is going to make up the millions of dollars of federal funding if the president prevails, I would be interested in hearing about it. Perhaps a significant budget reduction? Well, I think that would be hard for tax-and-spend Democrats to swallow. More tax hikes? The nail was just hit right on the head. Hunker down Mainers, this is going to be a stormy road to navigate.
Regarding many news outlets describing Maine as a blue state, the Second Congressional District has voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump in the past three presidential elections and has given him one electoral vote in each.
