In the wake of public demonstrations and outcry, confrontations at congressional town halls, and an overall unease within these United States, I call upon our representation in Washington D.C. to face their constituents. Answer our calls, and welcome us to your table.

Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, and Reps. Jared Golden and Chellie Pingrie should allow us to speak our minds directly. Each has been elected by us Maine people. They should test our faith in their leadership. Face to face, and not behind a screen or a Twitter thread.

Regardless, our voices deserve to be heard. In theory, each congressperson is but a megaphone for their constituency’s interest. Let the flesh and blood you represent speak words, clearly, and respectfully.

They should realize that their people are struggling. SNAP benefits are being eyed with an axe in hand, yet many Mainers rely on those benefits to simply not starve.

We are upset. We have concerns. Concerns that not only deserve to be heard, but to which they are elected to listen. As we elected each of the aforementioned, they should be reminded that we chose each of them in good faith.

As one of their constituents, I should hope they think enough about us to allow our voices to be heard.
