Houlton is a stone’s throw from Canada. For generations, family and dear friends have visited each other. Shoppers from Canada have spent multiple thousands of dollars in our stores.
The personal ties remain, but not so the cordial relationship between our two countries. Canadians have been hurt and insulted by mandated tariffs, and the persistent statements of our current president that Canada should become the 51st state of the USA.
I am working on a big sign for a rally on Saturday, April 5 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the sidewalk
near Houlton’s Peace Pole in Monument Park. My sign will read “HANDS OFF CANADA!”
