We have all seen the massive outcry against the seemingly fascist government that is trying to crush our democracy. It is time that our representatives and senators in Washington stop being apologists for this regime. Millions of their fellow Americans are unquestionably against what is happening in this country.

Our legislators in both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate swore an oath to protect the Constitution. I don’t believe they are honoring that promise. They are displaying cowardice when they should be on the forefront of the effort to reclaim our democratic form of government.

Donald Trump and his cronies have already promised harm to those who disagree with him or push back against him. I can understand if our senators and representatives are fearful of what repercussions there would be should they speak out. If that is the case, though, they would do our nation a courtesy by admitting this and stepping down to let others who could be more effective take their places.

I’m a 72 year old disabled veteran. I took an oath similar to the one those in office took. To me, that was an action that showed my love of my country. If our legislators truly love this country that has been so good to them, I urge them to demonstrate it with their actions. We need them to be the leaders we elected them to be.
