Rep. Jared Golden can say what he likes about the SAVE Act. The fact is that there is no need for this law. Voting in state and federal elections by non-citizens is already illegal and is proven to be so rare as to not be an issue. That tells us all we need to know.
In states with similar laws in place, thousands of voters have already been disenfranchised. This should be enough for a nay vote from any representative who seeks to protect our right to vote.
More disturbing than Golden’s words defending the SAVE Act is his lack of words about a president who is personally profiting off the presidency by selling meme coins, cashing in on dinner offers and VIP tours, who speaks of taking over sovereign nations, has made enemies of our allies, has ruined our standing of world leadership, has taken an economy that was the envy of the world and sent it plummeting. This list goes on.
Where are Golden’s words about illegal government kidnappings that we are horrified by? The constitutional overreach in demolishing government agencies? Our private data being accessed by computer geeks without security clearance? Autocratic threats to law firms, the press and universities? An executive that doesn’t obey the Supreme Court? The planned dismantling of democracy that we are watching unfold as he pretends that everything is business as usual?
Many who voted for Golden are now wondering why. And actively seeking other options for the future good of the nation.
