On a recent road trip back from Northern Maine, I stopped in for a walk in the Bangor Mall. How sad it made me to see all the empty spaces, water puddles, stained and missing ceiling tiles.
When my spouse and I lived in Bangor 40 years ago, we would go to the Bangor Mall as it was advertised as the biggest mall in Maine. People would drive down from Aroostook County and from New Brunswick to shop at the Bangor Mall.
As I took a few pictures, a person stopped and asked why I was taking pictures. I said this used to be a bustling shopping mecca. I sent the pictures to my spouse. “Oh my — I am depressed looking at these pictures” was the response back.
Fortunately, the nearby strip malls are bustling.
