I am writing in support of Laura Baker, a candidate for the Belfast School Committee. Laura has 48 years of educational experience, most of those years in Belfast. She has been a classroom teacher as well as a principal and a director of special education. I believe the school committee would benefit greatly from Laura’s knowledge of how students learn, and I am sure she also would support our teachers, the hard-working folks who are in the classrooms with students each day.
Laura’s demonstrated ability in developing learning communities where each student is respected is especially important in these divisive times. Our schools are small, but they can be a source of strong relationships that connect our youth to the community and benefit Belfast for years to come. Voting for Laura Baker is a vote for her hands-on educational experience, and it is also a vote for the future of our community.
