In response to Lawrence Merrill’s letter to the Bangor Daily News, I think that people must look beyond self in making their choice for president.
Kamala Harris has not been in office as president for four years. Any vice president has little to do with policy but does what is asked by the president. She was not asked to control immigration but was asked to look into the “root causes” of immigration. In 2021, most immigration was from Central America. She was focused on stopping corruption and violence. Immigration from these countries has dropped since Joe Biden took office.
Financially I believe the entire country is better off than ever before with higher wages, higher employment and higher manufacturing. Merrill picked 9 percent inflation under Biden — yes for one month, June 2022. It has been falling since.
The housing crunch has been going on for decades. Biden/Harris didn’t cause it. Much of the inflation was caused by the pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine. Biden didn’t cause either. Egg prices were caused in part by the avian flu, over 95 million chickens and other poultry have been killed. Fewer chickens, fewer eggs. Supply and demand works.
