It is an open secret to some that Donald Trump has expressed his disdain for due process, and in some regard, our entire system of checks and balances. Having won the presidency, we are faced with a president — popularly chosen by the people — who could attempt to accelerate and derail our train of democracy.
Granted, President Donald Trump’s record of making good on his promises to America has been sporadic at best (for instance, there is no functional border wall paid in full by the Mexican government), and considering his actions on Jan. 6, for which Sen. Susan Collins voted to impeac the president, I simply say this: The ball is in her court.
If we are to believe what President Trump wishes to accomplish in his term, we Maine people should have faith that Collins will speak for us: Maine — A state of sensibility with people of common sense. Now is the time to stand up to threats against the Constitution, and uphold her duty to that document and constituents.
She should be an example to her fellow senators, many of whom will be freshmen. Rise to this occasion, and represent us good Maine people well. We all love this country. Please live by our state motto, and lead. Fall not in line, but fight for the democratic institutions that allowed for us to elect you to office.
I thank her for her continued service to Mainers. I hope she will offer a hand, and uplift; punching down has never achieved anything great.
