For three generations of our family, we RVed on Mt. Desert Island, beginning in the late 1970s. In retirement, we particularly enjoyed spending a month or greater of our summer at the same Bar Harbor campground that our children and grandchildren so enjoyed.
Only two years ago, we decided the overcrowding and parking issues were not worth enduring. We sold our RV and truck only days after simply trying — twice — to go into Bar Harbor to enjoy a meal and beverage, only to return directly to the campground to make a sandwich both days.
We can certainly appreciate the concerns of the Bar Harbor residents that decided that “enough is enough” by dealing with the cruise ship issue. I think Bar Harbor has always been a wonderful town — until the cruise ship passenger issue of recent years. As Bangor locals, it just stopped being enjoyable for the overcrowding problem.
