I am writing about the Bangor Daily News story of the man whose dog was shot by the police. The story said the officer took the dog to the vet and the dog had a broken leg. It said the owner wouldn’t pay for the surgery and the dog was put down. The cost of medical care for animals has skyrocketed with corporations buying out local vets. I would like to know what the surgery would have cost that dog owner. It could have easily been over $1,000. A really sad situation all around.

My husband took our dog to our vet for a stomach X-ray. He ended up with a bill of $659. The charge for an “emergency room” visit during office hours was $154. Ten generic Pepcid tablets were almost $10. Several other tests were given. The dog was fine. This practice was bought by a corporation.

I wish the BDN could do a story about what’s happening with pet care costs.
