Vote no on Nov. 5 on referendum Question 5, which asks if you want to change the state flag. The proposed new flag is of just a pine tree and a star. I think this proposed flag is too much like the 1776 Pine Tree Flag. That flag was flown by liberty activists and enthusiasts of the American Revolution and was used in one of the first acts of resistance by American colonists to British royalty’s authority. The Pine Tree Flag was also carried by some of the insurrectionists on Jan. 6, 2021.
By voting no on Question 5 we shall be keeping the present day state flag, which I think is much more representative of Maine as it was in 1820, the year Maine became a state.
